Scouting Leadership

All Scouting units at Saint Mary’s have both male and female leaders. We have several fully trained Women Leaders in our Adult Leadership Core and in the Sea Scouting Program. Girls can also hold Junior Leadership Positions! In accordance with the Boy Scouts of America, National Council based in Irving, TX, and under the strict guidelines of the Connecticut Yankee Council, BSA, based in Milford, in order to be an Adult Leader or Unit Committee person for any scouting unit, the Main Adult Unit Leader must be a minimum age of 21 and have complete several Leadership training courses. Although at age 18, a male or female may hold the position of an “Assistant Scoutmaster”. All members of the Unit’s Committee as well as several additional Assistant Scoutmasters must be at least 21 years of age and also be considered “Fully Trained” including several Youth Protection training courses.
